{"id":29151,"date":"2024-07-05T11:38:09","date_gmt":"2024-07-05T09:38:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bibliotekutvikling.no\/kompetansebank\/?post_type=event&#038;p=29151"},"modified":"2024-08-07T15:43:33","modified_gmt":"2024-08-07T13:43:33","slug":"digital-knowledge-the-library-and-copyright-in-a-global-digital-economy","status":"publish","type":"event","link":"https:\/\/beta.bibliotekutvikling.no\/kompetansebank\/event\/digital-knowledge-the-library-and-copyright-in-a-global-digital-economy\/","title":{"rendered":"Digital Knowledge \u2013 The Library and Copyright in a Global Digital Economy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-secondary-background-color has-background\">Arrang\u00f8r:\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kb.se\/in-english.html\">National Library of Sweden<\/a>\u00a0in collaboration with the<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.prv.se\/en\/\">national IPO Swedish Intellectual Property Office (\u201cPRV\u201d)<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sccl.se\/en\/\">Stockholm Centre for Commercial Law<\/a>\u00a0at the Law Faculty at Stockholm University.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speakers include an international mix of senior representatives within policy-making; academic and legal expert practitioners specialized in copyright, AI, and their legislative applications; leaders of digital transformation, intellectual property offices and collective management organizations.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-bout-the-programme\">A<strong>bout the programme \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A broad palate of timely issues will engage both speakers and participants in robust dialogue over the course of two full conference days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Planning is ongoing for sessions with the rubrics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cArtificiaI Intelligence (AI),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Machine Learning (ML) <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Text and Data Mining (TDM) <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Titles: Drivers for Innovation &#8211; a Helicopter Perspective\u201d,\u201cNormative Approaches to Regulating AI and Copyright\u201d, \u201cApplication of Text and Data Mining \/ Case Law\u201d, \u201cCross-Border Access to Source Material for Research\u201d, \u201cFlexible Norms Facilitating AI in Research in the Digital Economy\u201d,\u201cAI and Ethical &amp; Legal Challenges Facing Mankind\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, the words that exist in books can be more than simply read: they can be sliced, diced, and mined in ways never before imagined in order to extract limitless amounts of new knowledge through the application of advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI,) Machine Learning (ML) and Text and Data Mining (TDM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The challenge, from the perspective of libraries and society alike, is that digitization is subject to numerous layers of rules, including those initially drafted for an analogue environment. In this respect, a fundamental question is how libraries can make themselves relevant in the digital economy through the use of AI, ML and TDM while at the same time complying with applicable legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Departing from the challenge\/question of the library in the digital environment, the conference will engage in the following non-exhaustive list of timely issues: the role of copyrighted materials in AI training, ML and TDM; the economics of regulating AI; the changes brought about by recent legislative developments, including the DSM Directive; the
